תחרות ישראל הפתוחה בגולף, שמשכה בשנים שעברו גולפאים רבים מכל העולם, התבטלה בשנה שעברה, בשל אירועי ה-11 בספטמבר ובשל המצב הביטחוני בארץ. השנה, החליט מועדון הגולף לקיים את התחרות שפתוחה לכל שחקני הגולף בעולם!

מיותר לציין, שהשתתפות שחקני גולף הזרים היא מזערית. עד לרגע זה נמצאו רק 6 צרפתים אמיצים ועוד 1 מדרום אפריקה שיגיעו לתחרות בארץ.

אצל הישראלים התחרות מעוררת עניין רב וכבר נרשמו למעלה מ- 100 משתתפים מכל הארץ.

השנה משתתף באליפות שחקן גולף עיוור, נכה צה”ל, זוהר שרון, בן 50, ממושב אבניאל, שמשחק במועדון הגולף באופן קבוע. שרון, מוסרת לאה שניידר, דוברת החברה לפיתוח קיסריה, הוא עיוור לחלוטין ובכל זאת השיג את התקן הדרוש להשתתפות.

הקאדי של שרון בתחרות יהיה המאמן הותיק ד”ר ריקרדו קורדובה, שנחשב למומחה בינלאומי, המצהיר שהוא גאה לשאת את כליו של שרון לאורך 18 המסלולים (8 ק”מ!)

התחרויות ימשכו 4 ימים, שיאם כמובן ביום האחרון, יום חמישי ה- 17.10.02 בטקס חלוקת הגביעים שיתקיים בסביבות השעה 15:00. הטקס יכלול ארוחה חגיגית ומופע של יונתן מילר ולהקתו בשירי קאנטרי אמריקאיים.
